How Servos Gives Back

Kapwa - Women Build 2023

Every quarter, we invite our team to nominate a charity or non-profit organization that Servos will support as a company. In Q3 2023, we have chosen Kapwa, an all-women team joining in Habitat for Humanity Chicago's Women Build. In Filipino, Kapwa means ‘The self in the other‘. Kapwa says we have a moral obligation to treat one another as equals, calls us to act for the common good and make sacrifices for our community.

“When I first heard of the event and their mission statement, I was all for it. On top of helping raise $575,000 to build Habitat for Humanity homes, they also participate in the actual house construction! Anything we can do to help empower folks to break down the systemic and gendered barriers to homeownership, especially those who have additional hardships, is worth it.

I hope that this event helps spotlight some of the disparities and challenges women face when it comes to income, access to mortgages, and securing housing, so that meaningful changes can begin to happen. That way, eventually, events like these will no longer be necessary. I believe Kapwa is an inspiration to the local community and helps drive more attention and assistance to this issue.”
